Business need (NHS)

Procure digital technology to manage care pathways where:

• Clinicians manage the product roadmap, prioritise features, commission and approve product changes
• A competitive supplier market place exists without lock-ins Supplier exchange is possible (evidence is required)
• Appropriate governance for healthcare tech safety, ownership, sustainability and control

Current NHS approach delivers low value and unsustainable high costs, plus barriers-to-iteration and evolution required for utility needed to deliver outcomes and advance clinical progress.

To engage with NHS without:

• Barriers due to incumbent lock-in and dysfunctional procurement routes making the market inaccessible

Healthcare need

Consistent with NHS improvement patient safety alert 2016:

• Reduce avoidable mortality and morbidity of deteriorating patients
• Improve identification, diagnosis and management of sepsis (44,000 UK deaths annually)
• Implement NEWS2

Technological challenge

• Interoperability - lots of technology and 'apps' but solutions not approached strategically, nor using mandated open standards (OpenEHR & others)
• No sustainable proven model for continuous improvement of applications used for healthcare needs
• Day to day operational challenges
