Needs addressed by this project
Business need (NHS)
Procure digital technology to manage care pathways where:
- Clinicians manage the product roadmap, prioritise features, commission and approve product changes
- A competitive supplier market place exists without lock-ins Supplier exchange is possible (evidence is required)
- Appropriate governance for healthcare tech safety, ownership, sustainability and control
Current NHS approach delivers low value and unsustainable high costs, plus barriers-to-iteration and evolution required for utility needed to deliver outcomes and advance clinical progress.
Business need (supplier)
To engage with NHS without:
- Barriers due to incumbent lock-in and dysfunctional procurement routes making the market inaccessible
Healthcare need
Consistent with NHS improvement patient safety alert 2016:
- Reduce avoidable mortality and morbidity of deteriorating patients
- Improve identification, diagnosis and management of sepsis (44,000 UK deaths annually)
- Implement NEWS2
Technological challenge
- Interoperability - lots of technology and 'apps' but solutions not approached strategically, nor using mandated open standards (OpenEHR & others)
- No sustainable proven model for continuous improvement of applications used for healthcare needs
- Day to day operational challenges
